Ethereal and profound at the same time, 30 years since its release and it still remains one of the most eschatological and legendary industrial records ever.

CAROLINE K (Caroline Kaye Walters) was from the UK, and essential member of the early incarnation of cult group Nocturnal Emissions. She performed on their classic early albums “Tissue of Lies” (1980), “Shake those Chains, rattle those Cages” (1984), “Songs of Love and Revolution (1985), and “The World is my Womb” (1987). In 1987, Earthly Delights released her solo album “Now wait the last Year”, which became a very sought after gem in both the industrial/experimental music and minimal electronics collector’s scenes. When listening to the album, her impact on Nocturnal Emissions’ sound becomes evident, and there is a clear musical link to the albums mentioned above, especially those in between ’84-’87. The first track (original vinyl’s A-side) “The Happening World” is a 20 minutes long ambient and droney electronic soundscape, wonderfully relaxing, and a cure for your stressed soul. The vinyl’s B-side was showing her other more song oriented approaches, but Caroline definitely had her own imagination of how a ‘pop song’ should sound like: dark and slow synths with sluggish pounding synthetic bass drum beats and various acoustic and synthetic percussions, didgeridoo-like drones, ancient voices and bright’n’sparkling melodies, and pianos fading in and out. That is unique stuff and such fine music. And be assured, “Chearth” will do well on your gothic disco’s dancefloor. So would “Tracking with close-ups” do, too, which sounds like being played at half speed or so. “Leaving” is like a soundtrack, imagine John Carpenter jamming with early Einstürzende Neubauten! This CD re-issue comes as remastered from vinyl version including three previously unreleased tracks, which are all beautiful, think Tim Story, and Richard Pinhas. Caroline died too soon in 2008, and it is nice to see a very personal and natural and totally non-cliché picture of Caroline on the CD label, which just add more sympathy for this woman that has created something that beautiful.
