This compilation, another in Virgin Records' lengthy line of double-CD "Best Ever" compilations, tackles the world of glam rock. It's expansive length allows The Best Glam Rock Album in the World Ever to show off the impressive versatility of the artists who worked under the glam rock banner: from the pure pop of Sweet and Mud to the edgy and intellectual stylistic excursions of Mott the Hoople and Roxy Music, this compilation shows off an impressive range of artistry that existed.

Is this the best glam rock album compilation there could ever be? Not quite. This album does a great job of showcasing the biggest hits from the biggest UK glam rock bands of the early 1970s, such as Slade, Sweet, Mud, Mott the Hoople and Roxy Music. What are especially welcome are one-hit wonders such as Geordie and Cozy Powell.

This page includes Best Prog Rock Album in the World. Footnote: IMHO the best Prog Rock Album of 2003 was the 3 CD set compilation offered by Decca: "Legend Of A Mind". This contained a fascinating collection of tracks (and artists), many long forgotten and the label even specifically remastered tracks for the compilation (. T2's "No More White Horses"). The guys who created this compilation feel they are the owners of the ultimate.

For many Iron Maiden fans, Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, their seventh studio album, released in 1988, is the greatest record the band ever recorded. Others will disagree, of course, but even they would accept that it’s one of the most sparkling jewels in the band’s vast catalogue that includes a wealth of gems. It’s the icing on the cake of an eight-album run, beginning with their self-titled debut in 1988, that has still yet to be bettered in heavy music history, and very probably never will . Roth might not have had the most technically perfect voice in the world, but ultimately, what lifted the album was Edward Van Halen himself – the guitarist redefined the very vocabulary of what a rock guitarist could do. If there was one track that instantly placed the guitarist in the pantheon of greats it was Eruption, his spontaneous, two-handed tapping instrumental masterpiece. It showcased a technique that would initially mystify and ultimately mesmerise every guitar player who heard it. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
