Tin Machine is the debut album by Anglo-American hard rock band Tin Machine. It was originally released in May 1989, on the label EMI. The band was the latest venture of David Bowie, inspired by sessions with guitarist Reeves Gabrels. Drummer Hunt Sales and bassist Tony Fox Sales formed the rest of the band, with "fifth member" Kevin Armstrong providing rhythm guitar and Hammond organ.
Tin Machine were a British-American hard rock supergroup formed in 1988, notable for being fronted by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. The band consisted of Bowie on lead vocals, sax, and guitar; Reeves Gabrels on guitar; Tony Fox Sales on bass; and Hunt Sales on drums. Tony and Hunt are the sons of American comedian Soupy Sales.

The 80s were a decade of popular growing for David Bowie: he released the critically acclaimed Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) in 1980 and the popular Let’s Dance, Tonight and Never Let Me Down in 1983, 1984 and 1987. My nadir was Never Let Me Down. It was such an awful album, I’ve gotten to a place now where I’m not very judgmental about myself. He changed his style and in 1988 formed Tin Machine, with Reeves Gabrels (an usual face in the tours of 90s and 00s), Tony Fox Sales and Hunt Sales (both played with him and Iggy Pop in Iggy’s The Idiot’s and Lust for Life’s tour in 1977 and 1978.
Much of the difficulty with Tin Machine II rests in some general confusion with what guitarist Reeves Gabrels is doing with his guitar; he doesn't play it like a guitarist is supposed to play. He plays long textural notes that shift in pitch and intensity. He does not play on the beat, and he does not play licks that you will be humming when the song is over

Tin Machine II picks up where Tin Machine left off, and in most senses corrects the errors of the first-born: Reeves Gabrels' lks guitar playing is spanked and told to behave itself; the production is snappier and cleaner, the mix is better, the band is miles tighter and the songs are more focussed - there are no cacophonic space-jams. Perhaps there's life in the old dog yet. Then again, Goodbye Mr Ed is possibly the most pretentious lyric written in the history of this highly pretentious art form: An Oh-Dear moment of the same scale as Never Let Me Down. The record isn't as fresh as Tin Machine I, which for all its flaws is a more pleasing effort.
