Clean is the second full-length studio album by the experimental Australian group Severed Heads, released in 1981 through Dogfood Productions and Terse Tapes, two labels that the band themselves operated.

This was my first album I got from them. Host Of Quadrille" sounds like the theme song to SPROKETS from Saturday Night Live. The best tracks are the incredible "Twister" and "Golden Height/I'm Your Antitdote" along with "The Tingler (They Shine Within" and the very cool "Host Of Quadrille". The wild "Estrogen" is interesting too.

Ellard and company spend a good deal of Cuisine sounding like Depeche Mode with the dial set to "evil," which is fairly disappointing considering Severed Heads' previous contributions to the world of twisted electronic pop music. In a few places they even seem to be rehashing some of their earlier material.

Maybe they expected us to do rap. Everyone is doing rap. Why won't you rap!? This is about the time that European and American music disconnected after about a decade of cooperation. The yanks just dumped it and the local label tried to remix it (see Twister, Retread). Neither could figure out what the hell to do with it.

Severed Heads was an Australian electronic music group based and founded in Sydney in 1979 as Mr. and Mrs. No Smoking Sign.
