The Maine formed in January 2007, consisting of John O'Callaghan on vocals, Kennedy Brock and Jared Momaco on guitar, Garrett Nickelsen on bass and Pat Kirch on drums. In November of that year, the group signed to independent label Fearless Records. Nickelsen called Fearless Records "a great label" and "really supportive. The following month, the group released The Way We Talk EP through the label.

Thao & the Get Down Stay Down is a San Francisco-based alternative folk rock music group that originated in Falls Church, Virginia. It consists of Thao Nguyen (vocals, guitar) and Adam Thompson (vocals, bass guitar, keyboards). Frank Stewart (lead guitar, production) and Willis Thompson (drums) are former members of the band. Thao Nguyen met drummer Willis Thompson while studying for her degrees in Sociology and Women's Studies at College of William & Mary.

Marking her main band's move to Ribbon Music, another Get Down Stay Down album, We the Common, followed in 2013, this time without Willis Thompson. It was produced by John Congleton and again involved several guests, including Midlake's Paul Alexander and McKenzie Smith. With official membership down to Nguyen and Adam Thompson, the group's nonetheless especially muscular fourth album, Man Alive, was produced by Merrill Garbus. It arrived via Ribbon Music in March 2016.

With super-producer and friend Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, Bill Frisell, Spoon) again at the helm, Know Better Learn Faster perfectly captures the band as their more mature, tastefully raucous, tastefully subdued and musically adventurous selves.

The Maine Stay Inn offers walking distance to town, restaurants, shops, the waterfront and more rprisingly quiet for an inn right on Rte. 1. It seems the traffic coming from the south somehow disperses as it comes into town and never quite reaches the in. This is our second visit to Maine Stay Inn. Last year we greatly enjoyed meeting owners Roberta and Claudio. Over the winter they sold the inn so they could retire to Florida.
