2 - Swing's The Thing (1931-1934). Fletcher Hamilton Henderson, Jr. (December 18, 1897 – December 28, 1952) was an American pianist, bandleader, arranger and composer, important in the development of big band jazz and swing music. His was one of the most prolific black orchestras and his influence was vast. He was often known as "Smack" Henderson. Fletcher Henderson was born in Cuthbert, Georgia. He attended Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated in 1920, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter organization established for African Americans.

Swing might have been the thing by the mid-'30s, but the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra, which had practically invented swing a decade earlier, was no longer leading the way. This Jazz Heritage LP includes two titles from 1931 (including the memorable "Radio Rhythm") and the final 12 songs recorded by the band before its breakup in 1935

He was one of the most prolific black musical arrangers and, along with Duke Ellington, is considered one of the most influential arrangers and bandleaders in jazz history. Henderson's influence was vast. He helped bridge the gap between the Dixieland and the swing eras.
