The collection of the Hungarian folk music of the Mezőség began at a relatively late date, but what László Lajtha found in 1940 in the village of Szék (Sic) was immediate proof that this area was among the most interesting and important regions even int he variegated and extremely rich folk-music dialect of Transylvania. The four records in the series Hungarian Folk Music from Northern Mezőség offer selection from the folk-music of five villages: Bonchida (Bontida), Válaszút (Rascruci), Búza (Buza), Magyarszovát (Suatu) and Ördöngösfüzes (Fizesul Gherlei). He acquired a teacher’s diploma in 1946, but after teaching for a short while in Kalotaszeg (Zona Kalata) and doing his military service, he continued his studies at the Academy of Music in Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca).
