The Nat King Cole Story is a 1961 album by Nat King Cole. The album was a retrospective of Cole's recording career, designed to present many of his earlier hits in new recordings featuring stereo sound. Cole is accompanied on the re-recordings by many of the notable arrangers and bands that had appeared with him on the original records. Of particular note is Cole's re-recording of "The Christmas Song"

The World of Nat King Cole. The World of Nat King Cole.

Nat King Cole, with the King Cole Trio, first recorded the song the same year and it became a hit, appearing on Billboard magazine's R&B and pop charts. Another version to reach the Billboard charts was that recorded by Bing Crosby with the Andrews Sisters on May 11, 1946 and this reached the No. 14 position in 1946. Cole re-recorded the song in stereo for his album The Nat King Cole Story (1961). The Christmas Song" (commonly subtitled "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" or, as it was originally subtitled, "Merry Christmas to You") is a classic Christmas song written in 1945 by Robert Wells and Mel Tormé.

This excellent CD has the songs from two of Nat "King" Cole's record albums, Cole Español and More Cole Español. These songs get the royal treatment from Nat; he makes them shine and that's grand. The quality of the sound is very good and the artwork incorporates the original artwork from the record album cardboard jackets. Cachito" starts the CD with a pretty number; and that music fits in perfectly with Nat's singing.
