In the upper music room of Scotty's Castle, Death Valley National Park, park ranger Steve is in character as a 1930s friend of Death Valley Scotty.

Welte Concert Orchestrion, style 6, number 198 (1895). The firm was already famous for its inventions in the field of the reproduction of music when Welte introduced the Welte-Mignon reproducing piano in 1904. It automatically replayed the tempo, phrasing, dynamics and pedalling of a particular performance, and not just the notes of the music, as was the case with other player pianos of the time. In September, 1904, the Mignon was demonstrated in the Leipzig Trade Fair. One of these organs can also be seen in the Scotty's Castle museum in Death Valley where it is played regularly during museum tours

Scotty's Castle (also known as Death Valley Ranch) is a two-story Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival style villa located in the Grapevine Mountains of northern Death Valley in Death Valley National Park, California, US. "Scotty's Castle" is named for gold prospector Walter E. Scott, although Scott never owned it, nor is it an actual castle.

Walter Scott, better known as Death Valley Scotty, claimed to have discovered a secret gold mine in the region north of Furnace Creek. Whether or not Albert Johnson ever truly believed Scotty’s claim is debatable, but the two men became life-long friends and colleagues. Johnson even built a room in the castle for Scott.

You can hear it played at the daily choral services, the free weekly Sunday organ recitals, and at our annual Summer Organ Festival. The Abbey is also home to the two-manual Queen's Organ (Mander, 2013), which can be found in the Lady Chapel where it is used principally for small-scale services such as weddings and memorials, as well as a five-stop continuo organ by Kenneth Tickell (1995) and a practice organ by William Drake (2017).
