Title: A Life of Tango - Alfredo Marcucci

Alfredo Marcucci SKU: 21904. Year of release: 2004. In 1984 I saw him for the first time. I had just discovered the bandoneon. With his right hand he was playing a virtuoso piece, with his left hand, at the same time, he very calmly straightened his glasses. It was marvellous, the audience was in stitches. It was one of the most important tango concerts that I have ever seen.

Profilo: Bandoneon player, performer, composer and ambassador of Argentine tango, born September 14, 1929 in a village named Ensanada, Argentina. Growing up in Buenos Aires, young Alfredo was taught the virtues of the bandoneon by his uncle, the well-known orchestra leader Carlos Marcucci. Prompted by the death of his father, at the age of 15 he began playing and touring professionally, and at the age of 18 he joined the orchestra of his other mentor, Julio De Caro

Piazzolla means Tango to most people; but that goes both ways: anyone who said tango in the last twenty years immediately evoked associations with Piazzolla. And rightly so, even though it was not ever thus. Of course the tango has a much wider historical meaning; there now exists a tango beyond Piazzolla; but if anyone was worthy to put the tango on the musical map of the world (or, more fashionably on the world music map) then it was this difficult, short-tempered, obstinate, capricious wanderer. Mores, Arolas, Correa. This does not apply for DXD selection.
