referencing Skwirm, Skweel, 12", TO3 005. A classic release! Andy Guthrie is one of the unsung heroes of Goa trance, especially in the psybreaks variation, and on "Skwirm" he outdid himself with a tougher, more twisted and experimental track than his usual output. Is there a more aptly-named track than this? The title is literally onomatopoeic and the track will have you twisting and turning like a Janus worm. Wonderful twisty twirly melodies and a sample of Terence McKenna at his anarchic, hilarious best

"Skweel" is no laggard either, with sudden shifts of pace, tone and mood - bizarre breaks. The Kool Aid was strong in the mid-90s, that is for sure. ~*~

If you are on of them guilty parties who can appreciate a dose of experiment in their goa trance, or if your nerves allow you to listen through two tracks of psy trance orientated which breaks away from the 4/4 pattern, you may be in for a treat here. Break beats, no linear patterns or structures, but very unpredictable music, with funny samples and quirky melodies. Not something I'd regulary dance to, but stuff along these lines can have you tripping all over the dance podium! Skweel can be compared to some Eat Static tracks, due to its percussion and the variety of sudden twists and turns it takes, with unannounced changes in pace, mood and sound effects. Very creative and hella different from most stuff released throughout the scene back then. While this may not really be my cup of tea, "Skwirm" remains a great release, full of nice and unexpected treats. If you are a fan of breakbeat in goa trance, rest assured this is one of the best 12'' I am aware of which combines the two style to such a great effect. The end result in nothing short of impressive. Worth checking out, even if you are not a breakbeat head, like me.
