1 Lecture 20: Tides (2007 Oct 17) 37:45. These lecture podcasts are audio recordings of daily lectures from Prof. Richard Pogge's Autumn Quarter 2007 section of Astronomy 161 at The Ohio State University.
Richard Pogge, MTWThF 2:30. Tides are caused by differences in the gravitational pulls of the Moon and Sun between near and far sides of the Earth. Spring & Neap Tides. Tidal Effects in the Earth-Moon System: Tidal Locking of the Moon.
Why are there two high tides a day? This lecture examines tides caused by the differences in the gravity force of the Moon from one side to the other of the Earth (stronger on the side nearest the Moon, weaker on the side farthest from the Moon). The Sun raises tides on the Earth as well, about half as strong as Moon tides, giving rise to the effect of Spring and Neap tides that correlate with Lunar Phase

EAS 375 Lecture Questions Transportation and Refining 1. Discuss the three major ways crude oil can be transported to a refinery and the advantages and disadvantages of each. 2. Why is distillation considered to be the foundation of refining crude oil into petroleum products?
Professor and Vice Chair for Instrumentation. 4059 McPherson Laboratory. In recent years, Prof. Pogge led the building and commissioning of Ohio State’s twin multi-object optical spectrographs for the Large Binocular Telescope (MODS1 & MODS2), and has worked on every major instrument program at Ohio State since 1989.
Evening Lecture To The British Association. Tidal Analysis Hard Problem!. and Prediction, Transactions of the Royal Society of London, A 259, 533-581. A free PowerPoint PPT presentation (displayed as a Flash slide show) on PowerShow. com - id: 7f63a-ZDc1Z. THE SUBJECT on which I have to speak this evening is the tides, and at the outset I feel in a curiously difficult position. If I were asked to tell what I mean by the Tides I should feel it exceedingly difficult to answer the question. The tides have something to do with motion of the sea. Lord Kelvin, 1882 2 Outline.
