Her Matador Records debut, Turn Out the Lights is the much-anticipated follow-up to the ruminating 2015 breakthrough of Tennessee singer/songwriter Julien Baker. While Sprained Ankle was recorded in a professional studio in Richmond, Virginia, it was with help from a friend who was interning there, and Baker, an 18-year-old college freshman at the time, was the sole performer. She recorded 2017's Turn Out the Lights at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis, emerging with a sturdier sound and accompaniment that includes not only guitar and piano but also strings, woodwinds, and additional vocals. The album even opens with a brief chamber overture that both sets a melancholy tone and establishes the expanded sound.

Don't Turn Out the Lights" is a song by American recording artists New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys from their collaboration compilation album, NKOTBSB. All current Backstreet Boys members at the time sing lead on the song, along with Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and Jordan Knight from NKOTB. The song was written by Jess Cates, Claude Kelly, Emanuel Kiriakou, and produced by Kiriakou.

Watch the video for Turn out the lights from Peter Elkas's Party of one for free, and see the artwork, lyrics and similar artists. That’s Ron Sexsmith’s endorsement of Peter Elkas in advance of the Toronto musician’s sophomore album, Wall of Fire, produced by Charlie Sexton. Peter describes the record as soulful and smooth, but with a rough edge and says listeners can hear his love affair with the 1970s sound on the tracks. Bill Withers, Bruce Springsteen, Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye were his musical heroes during the writing process for Wall of Fire.

RVS - From the Album "Backroads". D D7 G D I wonder who'll turn out the lights, in your world tonight, A Who's shoulder will your head be resting on? D D7 G D As I reach for the switch that turns out my lights, G D A D I wonder who'll turn out the lights in your world tonight? Chorus. A Is he touching that old switch that I touched so many times? I had a way then losing it all on my own I had a heart then but the queen has been overthrown And I'm not sleeping now, the dark is too hard to beat. And I'm not keeping up the strength I need to push me You show the lights that stop me turn to stone You shine it when I'm alone And so I tell myself that I'll be strong And dreaming when they're gone 'Cause they're calling, calling, calling me home Calling, calling, calling You show the lights.

With Turn Out the Lights, Baker returns to a much bigger stage, but with the same core of breathtaking vulnerability and resilience. From its opening moments - when her chiming, evocative melody is accompanied by swells of strings - Turn Out the Lights throws open the doors to the world without sacrificing the intimacy that has become a hallmark of her songs. The album was recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in her hometown of Memphis, TN, and mixed by Craig Silvey (The National, Arcade Fire).
