Lullacry was a melodic band with gothic metal influences that hailed from Helsinki, Finland. The band recorded their first demo (named Weeper's Aeon) in 1998 and in a short time they had enough of a following to safely attempt a full-length album – Sweet Desire – recorded in 1999. This got the attention of Spinefarm Records and led to a professional contract.

Lullacry's debut album openly displays the Finnish quintet's commitment to middle-1980s pop-metal. The 11 tracks of slick, unthreatening rock that make up Be My God owe as much to Lita Ford as they do to Dokken - lead singer Tanya's "scorned lover" persona follows in a tradition that began with Pat Benatar and continued through Patty Smyth's Scandal, but ended with the far more potent post-feminist stance of the riot grrrls.
