Stan Freberg at his best. Even after over 50 years, the humor stands up well, although there are a few dated references. It's a pity that this album is largely (and ironically) lost to history. The music is extremely catchy and the production value is very high. In fact, the entire album has the feeling of a Broadway play soundtrack. If it had ever been put to screen or stage, I have a feeling it would be an instant classic, along the lines of Monty Python and the Holy Grail "What's that?", you can answer.

Even though it took Stan Freberg three-and-a-half decades, he successfully updated the irreverent and historically challenged masterpiece Presents the United States of America, Vol. 1: The Early Years (1961). With tongue firmly planted in cheek, Freberg and his all-star company take on some of the greatest tales and incidents from the annals of .
Freberg satirizes episodes of the history of the United States from 1492 until the end of the Revolutionary War in 1783. The album combined dialogue and song in a musical theater format. Billy May orchestrated the music. Admirers of this album have included Steven Spielberg, Richard Dreyfuss and Paul McCartney. Dr. Demento's listeners have repeatedly voted The United States of America as the greatest comedy album of all time. Stan Freberg Presents The United States of America, Volume Two was planned for a release during America's Bicentennial in 1976, but did not emerge until 1996. In his autobiography, Freberg detailed his efforts to have the songs and skits produced on Broadway; when this failed, he used material omitted from the original album in the sequel. A third volume was planned.
The subject he failed in high school became a most enviable satirical target in this album. After many years of performing with her brother, Alex Campbell, she formed a group with husband Bud and her son David. They recorded Ola Belle Reed for Rounder Records in 1973. The album mixed older pieces, such as "Wayfaring Pilgrim" and "Billy in the Lowground," that showcased her deep feeling for traditional material, with her own compositions, including "My Epitaph" and "High on a Mountain," which has since become part of the bluegrass, country and Americana canons in versions by Marty Stuart, Tim O'Brien, Del McCoury and others.
