Ursa Minor is an unreleased studio album by American alternative rock band Third Eye Blind. Initially conceived as the second part of a double album to their 2009 release Ursa Major, the album was delayed, and eventually shelved, due to legal issues between frontman Stephan Jenkins and then-guitarist of the band Tony Fredianelli

Redirected from Ursa Major (Third Eye Blind album)). Ursa Major is the fourth studio album by American rock band Third Eye Blind. Released on August 18, 2009 on the group's own Mega Collider label, Ursa Major was the group's first studio album in over six years. The first single from the album was "Don't Believe a Word", which debuted on the radio June 5, 2009.

When Third Eye Blind released Out of the Vein in 2003, they felt like post-grunge relics that refused to acknowledge their time had passed. Six years later, with Ursa Major in tow, they've waited out the fallow time, surfacing just when late-'90s alt rock nostalgia is beginning to bubble. Tellingly, TEB shuck much of the heavy, oppressive sobriety of Out of the Vein, replacing it with a touch of the fizzy, singsong hooks that made their debut a smash success.

It is, however, Third Eye Blind. The songs may not catch on right away, but some time later, when you're sitting alone feeling gloomy, you might throw on Ursa Major and find songs working for you that haven't before. One song specifically being "Monotov's Private Opera", with its charming vocals and drafty atmosphere, it can do wonders for a lonely night. Who knows" With this being only the first half of a two-disc set (Ursa Minor coming later in the year), the sound of approximate completion may not have been in vain. It took me until 2008 to discover and get that album, only to realize I knew half the songs on it already from nearly 10 years before.

Third Eye Blind's fourth album and first since 2003-shows that frontman Stephan Jenkins' way with a hook has dimmed little since the band's mid-'90s heyday. The clunky lyrics are another thing.

Third Eye Blind continues their trend of Hey, track 2 sounds like a song by The Who with Don’t Believe a Word. The guitar lead-in sounds as much like Baba O’Riley as the previous album’s Blinded sounded like Pinball Wizard. It really comes to life on the album, showcasing Jenkins’ best vocals on this effort, especially in the song’s climax. The final two songs of Ursa Major, Dao of St. Paul and Monotov’s Private Opera (the teasing, Carnival Barker, notwithstanding), are also acoustic-driven, contrasting the electric-guitar of the opening tracks. Both feature choirs, which may turn off some with their big finishes, but they just seem to work here.
