Miles Mosley is a vocalist, upright bassist, composer, arranger and producer from Hollywood, California. He was named after Miles Davis. Miles Mosley was trained in classical music and jazz at Colburn School of Music in downtown . Mosley has studied with some of jazz's finest musicians, including John Clayton, Ray Brown and Al McKibbon.

Uprising is Miles Mosley’s debut album for Verve Records and it is a beauty. The record features the West Coast Get Down and when we caught up with Miles recently he explained the notion behind the collective. The West Coast Get Down is a collective that’s always been rooted in a bunch of LA musicians who are tied together through mutual respect. We started out in the 1990s and we’ve been a supportive collective ever since, but individually we rocket ship off into different directions, working with different, major, musicians. What is even more exciting is this album is in no way derivative, it is fresh and different. According to Miles, We are the sum of our parts and we bring an intensity to what we do. For example, Cameron Graves is into Metal and he brings such passion to his piano playing.

Although Mosley has already released three independent albums, beginning with 2005's Sicaceremony, he remains relatively unknown to the mainstream - a fact that leaves him plenty of creative breathing room for his move to the storied Verve label. That said, once you place him in the context of having previously appeared on fellow West Coast Get Down member saxophonist Kamasi Washington's breakthrough The Epic, not to mention rapper Kendrick Lamar's genre-bending masterpiece To Pimp a Butterfly, expectations start to cloud the horizon.

Mosley is a founding member and upright bass player for the acclaimed Los Angeles- based group, the West Coast Get Down (WCGD), a collaborative group of musicians born and raised in Los Angeles. Apart, they are some of the most sought after musicians in the world; together they are uninhibited innovators moving effortlessly through multiple genres of music.
