Zero to Infinity ( 02∞ ) is the tenth studio album by Gong, released in 2000. Like their 1992 album Shapeshifter, it continues the Gong mythology, the central part of which was formed with the Radio Gnome Trilogy of albums, comprising Flying Teapot in 1973, followed by Angel's Egg, 1973, and You in 1974. Zero the Hero died on Shapeshifter. Zero to Infinity sees his spirit enjoying a body-free and virtual existence. During the course of this he becomes an android spheroid Zeroid

Zero To Infinity is a surprising return of the classic Gong and equals the quality of the Allen fronted early 70's albums. It doesn't shed a new light on this band but the inspiration ran high during the recording of this album. For artists this late in their career it's an amazing album really. Foolefare, a transcription of Faut Le Faire (You got to do it), opens the album. If they wanted to hint at the 'tour the force' they are doing here with their sudden return to form then this self-appraisal is deserved.

Australian spacehead Daevid Allen began appearing on recordings by progressive rock pioneers Soft Machine and Gong in the late '60s and early '70s. Thirty years later in the year 2000, the serious-minded prog rock outfits are long gone, but Gong is back in action with Zero to Infinity, one of the strongest releases ever by the "Daevid Allen" version of the band.

A nice example of late era Gong still delivering it's classical psychedelic goods with a touch of early 2000's trance. Daevid and Gilli are still at the head of this.

This is a studio album from 2000. It features Gong trio of David Allen, Gilli Smyth and Dedier Malherbe plus long time on and off again member, Mike Howlett. It is about 65 minutes long. It continues the Radio Gnome and Zero the Hero saga. Get From Here to Eternetea instead. From Here to Eternetea is a two disk set that contains Zero to Infinity plus the live album Live 2 Infinitea and it is cheaper than either of the single CD's. This album is definitly Gong, but the group continues to evolve and experiment.

GONGZERO TO INFINITY(One Eyed Salmon SMACD0824) CD 64mThe first new Gong studio album in a decade is a mixed bag, but altogether a superior effort to the previous SHAPESHIFTER. This is because this new Gong (sans any Here & Now connections this time round) has attempted to return to the spirit of the "Flying Teapot" trilogy, and extensively features Gilli Smyth and Didier Malherbe, and even more importantly there's the groovy bass of Mike Howlett. The line-up is finished off by new Gong people Theo Travis and Chris Taylor.I suppose it would be too much to hope for a totally new Gong album these days though, as with both Daevid and Gilli's solo (etc.) careers running in parallel, there's so much in the way of cross-fertilisation of ideas heard elsewhere, and there are a number of songs you'll quite likely know from elsewhere, like: Wise Man In Your Heart (originally on Daevid's 1976 album GOOD MORNING), Magdalene, The Mad Monk and Bodilingus (all performed by Allen at recent solo gigs), and there are a lot of familiar Mother Gong themes and ideas. Die-hard Gong fanatics won't be disappointed, unless you don't like the idea of two sax players, that is.Alan Freeman[Audion #42, page 31 - Spring 2000]

Have found my copy of this. It still has shrink wrap on it, with a sticker stating ‘pop visionary Daevid Allen & coast blissfully under the radar in their masterful y2k continuation of the radio gnome saga. Includes 7 bonus tracks. Also states it’s 180 gram vinyl. Barcode on label is 8 013252 900501.

I have exactly the same copy which is still sealed in shrink wrap. "Unofficial Release" should be removed, or not?It is stated that all information comes from the cd. Perhaps the cd is, "Unofficial".
