The 'moments of decision' were those the photographer chose to record; the 'moments of indecision' were Brisley's, as he struggled to push the paint around with his body. For ‘Moments of Decision/Indecision’ (1975), which was performed in Warsaw, Brisley worked with a photographer, Les Haslam. Brisley spent a year in Berlin on a . scholarship; Haslam lived and worked in Berlin and they met there). He decided to make a work in which the role of the photographer would be important; in effect the ‘moments of decision’ were the photographer's, those of indecision the performer's, that is to say those of Brisley himself who was ‘trying to find images for the photographer’

Maurice Ravel (1875–1937) was a 20th century French composer. Ravel was one of the most complex of all composers. He was anti-Wagnerian, Impressionist and Neoclassicist all rolled into one. Life and Music. His Basque roots gave him a special affinity with Spanish colours and rhythms. Just as Ravel was at the height of his powers and popularity, the outbreak of the First World War caused him such deep distress that a number of important projects never came to fruition. Following a successful American tour in 1928 and an honorary doctorate from Oxford University, Ravel emerged in a final blaze of glory with the two piano concertos and his final completed work, Don Quichotte a Dulcinee. The remainder of his life was plagued by a malfunction of the brain caused by Pick's disease which increasingly affected his speech and motoric impulses.

Maurice Ravel completed his String Quartet in F major in early April 1903 at the age of 28. It was premiered in Paris in March the following year. The work follows a four-movement classical structure: the opening movement, in sonata form, presents two themes that occur again later in the work; a playful scherzo second movement is followed by a lyrical slow movement. The finale reintroduces themes from the earlier movements and ends the work vigorously.
