Andre Nickatina first appeared on the Bay Area rap scene in 1993 under the name Dre Dog as a member of the group . Soon afterwards, his following three albums, Tears of a Clown (1999), Daiquiri Factory: Cocaine Raps, Vol. 2, The Unreleased and These R the Tales (the latter three in 2000) gained him notoriety in the West Coast underground rap scene. Although they released only three songs together (Andre N Andre, U Beezy, My Homeboy's Chevy), they were close friends and the album was a tribute to his memory.

These R the Tales feels a bit like a collection of odds and ends - especially following the highly focused Daiquiri Factory - but it nonetheless offers a number of Nickatina classics. The title song, replete with the circus-like undertones so beloved by the rapper, is a continuation of the legendary Freaky Tales, the epic song by Nickatina role model Too Short. Nickatina’s take brings the theme to outlandishly goofy heights, with names like Chamere, Sable, Dallion and Tessy.
