That's What Friends Are For" is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager. It was first recorded in 1982 by Rod Stewart for the soundtrack of the film Night Shift, but it is better known for the 1985 cover version by Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder.

Now John Sterling is taking advantage. The Yankees’ radio announcer ended his three-decade run of calling every single game just before the All-Star Game, when he skipped the team’s four-game series in Tampa. But the 81-year-old who’s just about seen it all finally decided it was time for a break last week after experiencing one of his few remaining baseball firsts – a trip to London.
