La Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy is a period-instrument ensemble devoted largely to the performance of Baroque and early Classical works  . La Grande Écurie played regular concerts from its early years and by the mid-'70s was drawing international notice. Among its first recordings were a 1974 two-LP set of Handel's Water Music and other works, and a 1975 three-LP set of Lully's opera Alceste, both on the Columbia label. The latter effort was hailed as a landmark recording, both for its artistic merit and role in the rediscovery of this Lully masterpiece

This cosmopolitan ensemble of specialised musicians is the oldest period-instrument group in France still active today. Although La Grande Écurie has become particularly well known for its excursions into the Baroque style, in reality its repertory extends from the sixteenth century to the twenty-first.
