The Color of Money (1986) was an adaptation of Walter Tevis’s sequel to his earlier novel The Hustler (1959, film 1961). Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman, reprising his Oscar-nominated role) is now retired from competition. Out in Beverly Hills (1986), The Color of Money (1986), and Pretty Woman (1990); and restored Disney’s reputation for classic animation with Beauty and the Beast (1991) and The Lion King (1994). He also expanded the company into fields such as television, publishing, home video, and cruise ship travel. the 1986 Martin Scorsese movie The Color of Money), and Sting (in live and studio performances in 1987). Oscar to Newman for best actor, 1986.
The Motion Picture Academy did give him the award for his lead in "The Color of Money"-a role which, in my opinion, is almost, but not quite, as powerful. In "Verdict" his portrayal of a washed-up, alcoholic lawyer seeking redemption is so immediate, so real that it's often painful to watch. Having said that, I think his flashy, come-back pool player in "Color" is almost as good-handsome, sexy, full of energy and quite capable of dealing with his two, green proteges amusingly portrayed by Tom Cruise and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. What can I say, we all love it, we all need it, we can't survive without it. Money that is. Paul Newman and a very young Tom Cruise make magic on the screen. The only reason why this movie is the 2nd Best all time is because it came after the Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason 1960 film "Hustler".
THE COLOR OF MONEY will electrify you with its suspenseful story, dazzling cinematography and dynamic performances. The Color of Money Steelbook. Nice looking steelbook and a great classic movie make this a good addition to your collection. Although dated this is probably the best video version of this movie so far. 06/12/16 by MusicMan. Having been a long time since it was made, I was very delighted with how well they have improved the picture quality, while keeping the film's original feel of dark and dusty pool rooms and the whole feel the film originally had. Better than before or than I remembered and as always Newman is superb in the role.
