Just Right - Volume III ‎(LP, Album). Volume III Just Right ‎(CD, Album).

British musical group Soul II Soul has released five studio albums, two compilation albums, two live albums, and twenty-three singles. Soul II Soul released their debut album Club Classics Vol. One in April 1989 and it peaked at number 1 on the UK Albums Chart. It peaked at number 14 on the US Top 200 Album chart and earned a 2x platinum certification in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)

In April 1992, Soul II Soul released their third album Volume III Just Right. The album's lead single "Joy" performed by Stephens achieved major success on the charts. The follow-up single "Move Me No Mountain" performed by Kofi on lead vocals achieved moderate success but failed to make a huge impact in the album's sales figure. The third single "Just Right" also suffered the same fate. The group managed to tour for a brief time throughout 1993. In November 1993, the group released their greatest hits album Volume IV The Classic Singles 88–93. In 1994, Soul II Soul prepared to record their fourth album. Despite her career as an established solo artist, Caron Wheeler once again joined the group and committed to the recording of the group's upcoming album. During the record sessions, Wheeler and Jazzie B struggled with creative difficulties for the production of the album.

A tepid third effort from the previously unstoppable Soul II Soul posse. It's not entirely clear what happened with the group's efforts to result in such a lackluster release, but my best guess is that the departure of Nellee Hooper was largely responsible. Where the first two albums were such fertile mixtures of genres and styles, this one feels basically homogenized and disinfected. There's just not much bite here, nor groove. That said, there's nothing truly wrong with it—it's more that there's just not much of an edge to it. I've listened to it a few times over the years, thinking perhaps I missed something the first time (and second time, third time, fourth time...) around, but there isn't. It's wholly unremarkable. By the time I've finished listening to it, I can barely recall melodies, choruses, beats, basslines. This is in stark contrast to my connection with the first two albums: there are parts of those releases that absolutely haunt my mind's ear, popping up in a welcome fashion at odd times. While I like much of what Nellee went on to do post-SIIS, I do wish he'd stuck with them long enough to give us at least one more album of that beautiful Africa Center stew that made "Club Classics Volume One" and "1990: A New Decade" so deeply, surprisingly delicious.

I mean, those first two albums were just so ideal. I guess it was hard to keep it up without the Nellee Hooper magic? I don't want to give him all the credit, but their decline definitely coincided with his departure.

I so agree!! I was totally excited for this album when it first came out but it was a huge disappointment. And what was with all those bland flute-driven instrumentals?!?
