Ian A Anderson (as he came to be known) got kicked off the Island label in 1969, allegedly due to the presence of a famous namesake. He ended up on United Artists, which released a British blues collectors’ item that, until this CD reissue at least, commanded a premium price. Fledg’ling have unearthed the masters and added two tracks, so now we can hear what the fuss was about. It’s hard, at four decades’ remove, to get excited about what was essentially a Brit attempting to sing American, or American-sourced material.

He provided two tracks on the Blues Like Showers compilation album, which received attention from BBC disc jockeys John Peel and Mike Raven. As a result of the 1968 blues boom, Anderson started touring nationally, along with other acoustic blues players such as Mike Cooper and Jo Ann Kelly. He recordedThe Inverted World with Cooper for his own Matchbox label. Shortly afterwards, he formed Ian Anderson’s Country Blues Band, releasing the much neglected classic Stereo Death Breakdown for Liberty Records.

Ian Scott Anderson MBE (born 10 August 1947) is a Scottish-born musician, singer, songwriter and t best known for his work as the lead vocalist, flautist and acoustic guitarist of British rock band Jethro Tull. Anderson plays several other musical instruments, including keyboards, bass guitar, bouzouki, balalaika, saxophone, harmonica, and a variety of whistles

A second consecutive Ian Anderson solo album - "Homo Erraticus," due out April 15 - is affirming to Jethro Tull fans what they mostly already suspected, that the long-lived group is effectively no more. If you'd asked me 20 years ago did I regret anything about my musical career, my answer then, as it is today, has always been the name of the band," Anderson admits. I can't help but feel more and more as I get older that I'm guilty of identity theft and I ought to go to prison for it, really.
