In 1968 Tom Zé; moved from Salvador Bahia to Sao Paulo where he hung out and wrote with his friends Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. He started by recording Grande Liquidacao, a hyperactive pop album backed up by two incredible psychedelic rockbands: Os Brazoes and Os Versateis.
A true Tropicalia artist, Tom Zé's material on this album runs from traditional Brazilian pop to overly quixotic arrangements - all twisted around his convoluted vocal melodies. Even early on in his career, Zé was taking from a multitude of genres - funk, psychedelic rock, and bossa nova - and creating some kind of unheard pop exotica. This is especially apparent on "Gloria," with its changing tempos, bubbling instrumentation, and off-the-wall harmonies

Tom Zé's first release from 1968 is certainly not as unique as some of his material from the '70s, but it's a far cry from faceless. Only 1 left in stock (more on the way). Only 3 left in stock (more on the way). The material heard on this album includes traditional Brazilian Tropicalia laced with crazy vocal melodies and samples from multitude of genres from funk to psych rock and bossa nova creating a sort of unheard pop exotica. This is especially apparent on the track Gloria, with its changing tempos, bubbling instrumentation, and off-the-wall harmonies. Oddball pop songs that make you want to laugh and cry.
Grande Liquidação' was originally released in 1968, the same year Zé contributed to the Tropicália blueprint 'Tropicália: ou Panis et Circenses' alongside the perhaps better known Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa and Nara Leão.
