Fernando" is a song by the Swedish pop group ABBA. It was the group's first non-album single and was released in March 1976 as the brand new track for the 1976 compilation album Greatest Hits, but was also included on the group's fourth studio album Arrival in Australia and New Zealand. Fernando" is also featured on the g Gold: Greatest Hits compilation. The song is one of ABBA's best-selling singles of all time, with six million copies sold in 1976 alone.
One of ABBA's biggest hits, "Fernando" was conceived as a Frida solo track in Swedish, but it was soon realised the track had potential internationally and a version in English was recorded for ABBA. Since no other new ABBA track except "Dancing Queen" had been recorded at the time (and the only question was which one would be released as an A-side first), the B-side had to be sourced from past ABBA releases

Lyrics to "Fernando" song by ABBA: Can you hear the drums Fernando? I remember long ago another starry night like this In the firelight. ABBA re-recorded this song in English with completely different lyrics in 1976, and it was their first non-album single, though it was a part of their album "Arrival" issued in Australia and New Zealand. In most other countries it was only on greatest hits compilations. Björn Ulvaeus said about the origin of this song, "I thought long and hard, what does Fernando tell me?.
ABBA then recorded an English version the following year. The song does not appear on any studio album, only greatest hits collections. Bjorn Ulvaeus (from 1000 UK Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh): "That lyric is so banal and I didn't like it. It was a love lyric, someone who loved Fernando, but I inherited the word 'Fernando' and I thought long and hard, what does Fernando tell me?
