Definitely a little unhappy with the number of skips on this one. I have only done a cursory "light clean" on it though, so I guess I'll give it a full-fledged one to see if that makes a difference. I rarely ever have skipping issues on my Pro-Ject TT, so I assume it's the vinyl. Otherwise the mastering sounds really great, very crisp for a live album.

I'd say I like Dave, but I dont go out of my way to listen to him. Would this be worth getting? I want to get 1 Dave album to put on for m sound system and I cant pick between a live set or an actual album. If I were to get one album, what one should I get... basing this off how it was transferred to the LP

I hated DMB, and then I walked into my buddies room as he was playing Seek Up off this album and my musical taste changed forever. This is a must have. Can't say i listen to Dave anymore but I'll catch a show once in a while.

I don't believe that Bellman was involved with the 'Under the Table' reissue in any way. That one sounds OK, but Jensen applied some dynamic range compression (not as much as he usually does, which I guess is a step in the right direction for him!) and IMO it doesn't sound as good as it could have had they done it AAA like they did with Crash. Which album you prefer is subjective of course, but from a purely sonic standpoint, 'Crash' is far better than 'Under the Table.'

As the others have stated - if you want live, this is the one to have, but don't overlook the Recently EP they put out in 2014 for a killer mix of studio and live tracks. Limited edition and it appears it can be had for a reasonable price still. Carter's drum work shines live, especially on Red Rocks (sounds like he's trying to demolish his kit at the end of Watchtower). As far as studio albums go, that's probably going to come down to a matter of preference regarding favorite tracks. Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash are both outstanding, but the former carries a bit of stigma due to the digital step added (i.e. lacquers cut from 24/96 files). Don't let that deter you, it was mastered and cut by some of the best in the game (Ted Jensen and Chris Bellman respectively) so it sounds great. Crash, on the other hand, was mastered and cut by Bellman (some prefer to have the same set of ears mastering and sitting at the cutting lathe), and as others have mentioned, is completely analogue. We should also be getting Before These Crowded Streets in the not too distant future (20th anniversary will be April 2018) and if it gets the same treatment as above and has favorite tracks of yours (I know it'll round out my collection of DMB "must-haves") it may be worth the wait.

This cd stayed in my car for basically 2 years straight when it came out, I think it is the best live DMB ever. And this one is mastered by Bellman like the Crash reissue is. I would say get this one, but get the much cheaper black vinyl version and avoid the scalper inflated RSD silver version

Tough call. DMB is one of those bands that has amazing studio work (the first 3 albums in particular) but is really meant to be experienced live. For live stuff, this is probably the one to get as the other live vinyls are the Live Trax series which can be pricey, whereas you can get the black vinyl version of this for around $60. The remaster by Chris Bellman sounds fantastic. For studio stuff, you absolutely cannot go wrong with the reissue of 'Crash' that came out last year. It was remastered 100% analog from the original master tapes, again by Chris Bellman, and it sounds AMAZING. I'm a huge DMB fan and listened to that album more times that I could possibly count, and the first time I listened to the remaster it was like hearing it for the first time again, truly phenomenal.

I just got the black vinyl copy today and I'm wondering if anyone has the same skipping issues that the RSD release has?
Zeli Zeli
Every skipping issue I've come across with this release has been equipment related - folks playing the album on cheap turntables (AT LP-60, etc...)

http://davematthewsband.shop.musictoday.com/Product.aspx?cp=1_5570&pc=DMLP17A direct link to preorder the black 4xLP. Same pressing, same master. Same box. $80 cheaper

$80 cheaper? Than what? The black pressing on the site is the same price I paid on RSD. Am I missing something?
MilsoN MilsoN
For those looking, the official site now has the black vinyl version for sale.

#1353 plays beautifully without skipping and didn't need cleaning. Hope everyone with issues is able to find a solution. I think for a lot of you a turntable with a counterweight will be that solution.

#1014 just opened from shrink wrap today and now issues.
Tiainar Tiainar
Such a great release. Box is solid. Lps look and sound fantastic. Only let down was this was the only RSD item I bought that had to be thoroughly cleaned before playing. Not just a wipe down but a thorough cleaning. 1st play was a skip fest. After cleaning no issues.

I'm embarrassed at how many (expletive deleted) flippers on here are from Canada, wankers.
Katishi Katishi
One guy even has two copies for sale, what a dipshit.

Remastered and cut by chris bellman. Really nicely done. Sounds awesome, but this is expected from bellman.

For those that don't want to pay the crazy flipper prices for this, there will be a regular black vinyl release coming in the next few months. Same master, same packaging. So unless the silver vinyl and the numbering are of particular importance to you, don't bother paying the huge markup. :)
Love Me Love Me
Boom - nice find. And I guess that confirms it will be a wide release rather than fan club only. Suck it, flippers! ;-)
Zinnthi Zinnthi
beverett Bull Moose confirmed it on their listing - http://www.bullmoose.com/p/24805635/dave-matthews-band-live-at-red-rocks-8159-4-lp-150g-vinyl-metallic-silver-vinyl-includes-download-insert-quantity-2500"Colored vinyl is exclusive to RSD. Black vinyl will follow."
Unereel Unereel
I'm not sure if there's anything official announced, but this is pretty standard practice for the DMB live releases on vinyl. The one thing I don't know for sure is if the black vinyl version will be a wide release that you can buy at any vinyl retailer, or if it will be sold exclusively through their fan club the Warehouse. For example, all of the vinyl sets from their 'Live Trax' series that were released in colored, numbered versions for RSD were then subsequently pressed on black vinyl and made available in a limited run through the Warehouse only. However, my best guess is that this Red Rocks set will be widely available through normal retailers - reason being that Red Rocks was a wide commercial release in it's original CD form, while the Live Trax series releases are only available direct from the band's site. So far with DMB releases on vinyl, all of the titles that were originally normal releases (Recently EP, Remember Two Things, Under The Table and Dreaming, Crash) have been normal releases while only the Live Trax box sets were sold just through the Warehouse. So, I have no direct knowledge either way but best educated guess is that once the black vinyl Red Rocks comes out, you'll be able to get it not just from the band's site but also whatever your normal vinyl retailer of choice is. Again, take this with a grain of salt as I don't have any first hand information but, this is likely what will happen.
Gadar Gadar
I've been looking for this information for a couple days now. Where did you read/find this? I was confident RCA/BR/DMB would do a standard release.
Pettalo Pettalo
lol @ the people bitching. Got it cheaper and more convenient? Then go f*cking buy it there. Otherwise stfu about pricing.
Gardataur Gardataur
REALLY...many people want to buy to listen to one of the Best DMB live albums on vinyl without being gouged. I was fortune enough to pick this up on RSD and no plans to flip!!!
Quphagie Quphagie
I believe in calling a spade a spade, nothing wrong with selling something in your colleciton if you're unhappy with it but it takes a real jackass to go with sole intent of flipping. Also you should report that store to RSD Kstillson as they should have prevented that from happening and they should lose their status for allowing people to force their way into the store like that. The stores I frequent in the NY area make sure the first 100 or so people come in slowly often 10 at a time for every 20 seconds that passes and it's ONE LINE around the items you have to go in order, so if you decide to skip ahead towards a section at the end of the line where one release you want is, you cannot go backwards. One time through, forgot something it's back of the line.
Mariwyn Mariwyn
Although I don't condone people bitching on these sites. I mean, you get what you pay for. My own experience of RSD was that three complete asses pushed their way into the store and systematically grabbed every copy of anything they could flip. I'm an old fart by comparison and just wanted to be a part of it. I'm watching kids go from complete enjoyment to be there to utter disappointment while being roughed aside for no reason. I know..."real world lesson" but no one has the right to be a dick.

I got number #2631 so that 2500 thing is out the window. surprise surprise

29xx on eBay, haven't seen over 3000 yet but don't think it's too much more given how few places have stock even Bullmoose is sold out
Dyni Dyni
I bought this today and it skips really badly, pressing seems terrible.
Flathan Flathan
I believe it's an issue with your table, I have a friend with an Audio Technica LP60 and he mentioned he had several skips throughout the recording, he brought it over to my place last week-end and we listened on my Rega table and we listened to the songs he had the worst skips on and there were none on mine,These cheap tables without tracking adjustment may have skips on very dynamic passages of music that are cut loud with lots of low end, the AT60 has no tracking adjustment and I bet if you measured 10 of them in a row you'd get 10 different results. Mine tracks perfectly at 1.7g and holds it, I measure it usually once every couple months to verify.
Yanthyr Yanthyr
I have zero issues with my copy. Plays beautifully with no skipping and great detail. My table is a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit SB with a Denon DL-110 cartridge.
Visonima Visonima
How did you clean yours? I've got a record washer mk II which I used on one of the records that was skipping and it made no difference. It still skips in the exact same spot.
Delari Delari
Mine was skipping very bad on the Sides A,B&C, but after I washed and scrubbed them the skips went away. Too relieved! I highly suggest you do the same, it sounds great!!Thank you Bellman and the DMB team!
Mr.Savik Mr.Savik
I'm glad to hear yours works well. Mine literally skips dozens of times to the point that it wasn't enjoyable to listen to.
Kabei Kabei
I'm not sure, I was going to see what I could do on Monday, if you figure anything out in the meantime please let me know.
Yalone Yalone
I'm playing it on an Audiotechnica table. It's not the greatest table but I've never had an issue with skipping before and I replayed some of the tracks and it's skipping in the exact same place.
Foiuost Foiuost
Mine was #2714, I'm not sure what it is an edition of.
Daizil Daizil
What number was yours ? And any idea what this is an edition of?
Clonanau Clonanau
Just curious, what are you playing it on? This is a Bellman master so I'm surprised to hear that
Cobyno Cobyno
mine is skipping really badly too! Wtf?! Do we have any recourse? Pressed at MPO.

Mine had one skip on the 3rd disc....rest of the set played really nicely though.

lol @ the person thinking this is worth anywhere near $600 hahahaha
