Check out the iPhone solo on "Come Back Baby". Wendy Grose Summertown (1975) This tranquil chamber pop track is taken from Australian singersongwriter Wendy Groses debut solo album, Backyard of Blue released on Alberts in 1975. Another good album on Alberts like . What we get here is a sophisticated singer/songwriter album that takes influences from American artists such as Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro and Carole King. Stylistically it hovers between delicate piano rock and acoustic folk pop, with the songs often built around Wendy's clever piano lines or soft acoustic guitar and folk-y vocals.
Francis Grose's 'Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue' was first published in 1785, and is a dictionary of slang words. Grose was one of the first lexicographers to collect slang words from all corners of society, not just from the professional underworld of pickpockets and bandits . Grose and his assistant Tom Cocking took midnight walks through London, picking up slang words in slums, drinking dens and dockyards and adding them into their 'knowledge-box'.
