Solo is an album by guitarist Jimmy Raney which was recorded in 1976 and released on the Xanadu label. He put a lot of thought into the interpretations". All compositions by Jimmy Raney except where noted. How Deep is the Ocean?" (Irving Berlin) – 6:50. The Way You Look Tonight" (Dorothy Fields, Jerome Kern) – 4:27.

This intriguing set features Jimmy Raney in a set of overdubbed guitar duets with himself. He put a lot of thought into the interpretations, which range from a couple of nearly free pieces ("New Signal" and a revamping of the standard "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes") to mostly pre-planned numbers influenced by classical music, a fairly ad-lib "The Way You Look Tonight," a straightforward rendition of the pretty "Wait 'Til You See.

Raney worked in a variety of jazz mediums, including cool jazz, bebop, post bop, hard bop and mainstream jazz. In 1946 he worked for a time as guitarist with the Max Miller Quartet at Elmer's in Chicago, his first paying gig. Raney also worked in the Artie Shaw Orchestra and collaborated with Woody Herman for nine months in 1948. He also collaborated and recorded with Buddy DeFranco, Al Haig and later on with Bob Brookmeyer. In 1967 alcoholism and other professional difficulties led him to leave New York City and return to his native Louisville
