Mitty Lene Collier (born June 21, 1941) is an American church pastor, gospel singer and former rhythm and blues singer. She had a number of successful records in the 1960s, of which probably the best known is "I Had A Talk With My Man". Mitty Collier was born in Birmingham, Alabama, the seventh child of Rufus and Gertrude Collier, and attended Western-Olin High School, Alabama A & M College and Miles College where she majored in English.
The record with which Mitty Collier will always be associated, the classic ‘I Had A Talk With My Man’, charted in 1964. Like its follow-up, ‘No Faith, No Love’, it was an adaptation of a number from the pen of leading gospel songerwriter James Cleveland. Sharing You’, released in 1966, was Mitty’s only other hit. A decade ago, Chess themselves released a compilation of Mitty Collier recordings, but that (now long deleted and much sought after) CD concentrated on her album. Kent’s brand new Shades Of Mitty Collier collection, on the other hand, focuses on her singles. Each of her 15 A-sides.

James Cleveland, I Had A Talk With God Last Night. Billy Davis-the same gent that got The Four Tops signed with Chess and co-founded Anna Records with Berry Gordy's sister Gwen in Detroit before moving to the Windy City and working on A&R at Chess-had heard session keyboardist Leonard Caston, Jr. playing the Cleveland record in the studio in preparation for teaching it to his church choir. The Chess house producer decided that it would fit Mitty Collier's contralto beautifully if they supplied some secular lyrics
