Description

Complete your Alison Moyet collection.

Voice is the sixth studio album by British singer-songwriter Alison Moyet, released by Sanctuary in 2004. It is a covers album, featuring slow-tempo, classic songs from a number of different genres, designed to showcase the singer's voice, with orchestral backing. After a performance with the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2003, Moyet approached conductor Anne Dudley with the idea of recording a "collection of classic song".

Voice (Alison Moyet album). Voice is the sixth solo music recording/album of singer/songwriter Alison Moyet. It is a covers album, though not a typical one for a singer such as Moyet; the tracks chosen are slow-tempo, classic songs from a number of different genres, designed to showcase the singer's voice. Voice was released in September 2004 and reached No. 7 in the UK, remaining in the charts for twelve weeks. Preceding the album was the single "Windmills of Your Mind", which failed to make a chart appearance. The second and final single, released in December 2004, was a double release of "Almost Blue" and "Alfie". It reached No. 99 in.

There can be little doubt that Alison Moyet is one of the finest voices that Britain has ever produced. Maybe not since the 1960s has there been a female vocalist that can span the range of Moyet, the early trademark of her contralto tones making her an instantly recognisable proposition. Following her split from Yazoo with Vince Clarke after their critically acclaimed second album, You And Me Both (which with hindsight showed a huge influence from her), it is fair to say that she was given little creative freedom. The first single from the album, Should I Feel That It’s Over was a medium paced effort again proudly displaying the voice that we had slowly expected to be incredible and were subsequently never disappointed by. Perhaps the album highlight comes with More, where like it or not, Alison gave one of her most sensual moments in a track that oozes lust and sexuality.
