Henry Gibson (3). 200 Years. Written-By – H. Gibson, R. Baskin. 1975 ABC Records, Inc. A - Published By Lions Gate Music C. Henry Gibson's songs are the most satirical, as he plays an older, very conservative, family values type with the firm baritone of a popular preacher, exhorting couples to stay together "For the Sake of the Children" and solemnly praising the country for lasting "200 Years". Karen Black is delightful as a boozy, fallen woman whose "Memphis" is the biggest hoot on the album, in which she doesn't even know what day it is and asks for help to keep from sliding down even more. Personally, I think Keith Carradine's "I'm Easy" is the best of the bunch.

Single by Keith Carradine. 200 Years (Henry Gibson)". The album was issued late fall 1976. The song is often mistakenly associated with Jim Croce due to the similarity of Carradine's voice, vocal style and guitar playing, all of which bear strong similarity to Croce, who had died in a plane crash two years before Nashville was released. Awards and recognition. I'm Easy" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Golden Globe for Best Original Song (Motion Picture). The song peaked at on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, number 10 on the Cash Box Top 100, and spent one week atop the adult contemporary chart.

Convincing performances come from Henry Gibson, in the role of star Haven Hamilton. Gibson is also well known as a gravity-defying Illinois Nazi in The Blues Brothers. He cuts his lover loose in "For the Sake of the Children," giving her three reasons: Jimmy, Kathy, and sweet Lorelei ("Cause Jimmy's been wishin' that I take him fishin'/His Little League pitchin' is somethin' to see"). Other excellent performances are turned in by Karen Black and Keith Carradine, whose "I'm Easy" won an Academy Award for Best Song. Nashville is a fine elixir in an age of ot movies and a hoot to boot.

It's not my way to love you Just when no one's looking It's not my way to take Your hand if I'm not sure. But I'm easy, yeah, I'm easy Give the word, I'll play your game As though that's how it ought to be Because I'm easy. Don't lead me on If there's nowhere For you to take me If loving you will have To be a sometime thing. I'm easy, yeah I'm easy Take my hand and pull me down I won't put up any fight Because I'm easy

Keith Carradine wrote "I'm Easy," which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song - Motion Picture. Carradine also wrote "It Don't Worry Me", which is heard on the soundtrack throughout the film, and is the closing number performed by Barbara Harris onstage at the Parthenon. In 2002, the album, A Tribute to Robert Altman's Nashville was released, featuring interpretations of the film's songs by Canadian alt-country figures, including Carolyn Mark, Kelly Hogan and Neko Case. Spanky and Our Gang covered "Dues" and "Since You've Gone" in their 1975 album Change. Rolling Stone" (written and performed by Karen Black) – 3:57. 200 Years" (written by Richard Baskin and Henry Gibson, performed by Henry Gibson) – 3:04. Tapedeck in His Tractor" (written and performed by Ronee Blakley) – 2:20.
