Henry Gibson's songs are the most satirical, as he plays an older, very conservative, family values type with the firm baritone of a popular preacher, exhorting couples to stay together "For the Sake of the Children" and solemnly praising the country for lasting "200 Years". Karen Black is delightful as a boozy, fallen woman whose "Memphis" is the biggest hoot on the album, in which she doesn't even know what day it is and asks for help to keep from sliding down even more. Personally, I think Keith Carradine's "I'm Easy" is the best of the bunch.

Convincing performances come from Henry Gibson, in the role of star Haven Hamilton. Gibson is also well known as a gravity-defying Illinois Nazi in The Blues Brothers.
