Bobby Bland recorded "I Pity The Fool" in 1961 for Duke Records. The legendary "Lion Of The Blues" was inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. David Bowie covered the song under the name The Manish Boys in 1965 with a young Jimmy Page on lead guitar and it was released as his second single.

Robert Calvin Bland (né Robert Calvin Brooks; January 27, 1930 – June 23, 2013), known professionally as Bobby "Blue" Bland, was an American blues singer. Bland developed a sound that mixed gospel with the blues and R&B. created tempestuous arias of love, betrayal and resignation, set against roiling, dramatic orchestrations, and left the listener drained but awed.
