Best of the Beast was Iron Maiden's first "best of" album, released in 1996 in three formats: a 34 track (four disc) vinyl, a 27 track (two disc) CD, a 16 track (single disc) CD and MiniDisc.

The definitive Iron Maiden Album. I would actually say that Power slave is better to listen to but tracks "Number of the Beast" and "Run to the hills" are all time classics and were so important for metal and Maiden at the time. Hallowed be thy Name" is an absolutely fantastic track also. If you want to get into Iron Maiden, get this and Power slave and you will be hooked. If not the best Iron Maiden epic, Empire of The Clouds written by Bruce, oooh man, what an incredible journey is that 18 minutes song, the melodies of the piano. I have listened to many an Iron Maiden album, and like any album by any band, there are songs on each that I don't care for (ironically, most of them tend to be the title track). In fact, most Iron Maiden albums net me three, maybe four songs that I listen to again and again. I love 'em, but they're not perfect.

One filler track aside (and yes, I agree, they should have put Total Eclipse on instead), Bruce’s first album with Maiden is a wall-to-wall triumph. Never mind the classic singles, listen to Children Of The Damned or Hallowed Be Thy Name or 22 Acacia Avenue and try not to feel instantly better about your life.
