The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is one of the main sights of Saint Petersburg, Russia. Other names include the Church on Spilled Blood (Russian: Церковь на Крови, Tserkov’ na Krovi), the Temple of the Savior on Spilled Blood (Russian: Храм Спаса на Крови, Khram Spasa na Krovi), and the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ (Russian: Собор Воскресения Христова, Sobor Voskreseniya Khristova).

Unfortunately, Burn Your Own Church is basically a showcase for Rebotini as the front man of a rock quartet. The songs are enjoyable enough, but his vocal work really brings them down a few notches and at times makes them somewhat annoying. In my view, this is a major bummer. The 80s synth sounds were the defining characteristic of Black Strobe and as nice as it is that Rebotini wants us to know he's multidimensional, removing the synths also removes the essence

The church stands in the very place where a bomb was thrown into his carriage by a young man who opposed the Tsar's reforms. Alexander II was among the greatest Russian tsars, one of the main accomplishments of whom was the emancipation of serfs in 1861, which brought an end to the de facto slavery of the Russian peasantry, five years before the emancipation of slaves in the US. The Cathedral of the Savior on Spilled Blood attracts people with its five onion-domes exuberantly decorated and covered with jeweler's enamel. It took around 24 years to construct such a majestic edifice as the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood and, after early Soviet vandalism, 27 years to restore. People would even joke that as soon as the construction trestles outside it were removed, the Soviet Regime would fall.

Amazingly, the cost of this canopy was comparable to the cost of the rest of the cathedral. Located between several classical architectural ensembles in the very heart of Saint Petersburg and visible from the famous Nevsky Prospect, the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood draws everyone’s glance with its brightly-colored domes and mosaics. The precious and semi-precious stones used to decorate the church also contributed to its opulence. Its multicoloured marble iconostasis was made in Genoa, Italy, and the best masters in Russia used Siberian gemstones to create its icon cases over a period of 12 years. The Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood is a superb example of Russian architecture and of the decorative and monumental art of the late 19th century.
