Swing That Music (10:06). Personnel: Bob Wilber - ss, cl. Kenny Davern - ss, cl. Marty Grosz - g. Ray Brown - b.

Soprano Summit was one of the finest regularly working jazz bands in existence during the 1970s. With Bob Wilber and Kenny Davern (on clarinets and sopranos) inspiring each other, their music was consistently exciting. On this particular release acoustic guitarist Marty Grosz is a major asset while bassist George Duvivier and drummer Fred Stoll are fine in support of the lead voices. Four of the dozen songs performed for this album are Wilber originals and they all fit into the genre of small-group swing. Very enjoyable music. Track Listing - Disc 1.

Recorded December 17th, 21st, 22nd, 1973 at Vanguard Studios, . on two-inch sixteen track tape using Dolby noise reduction equipment.

Kenny Davern on clarinet. Background information. At this time, he had also taken up the soprano saxophone, and when a spontaneous coupling with fellow reedman Bob Wilber at Dick Gibson's Colorado Jazz Party turned out be a huge success, one of the most important jazz groups of the 1970s, Soprano Summit, was born. Co-led by Wilber and Davern, both switching between the clarinet and various saxophones, during the next five years Soprano Summit enjoyed a very successful string of record dates and concerts. When the group disbanded in 1979, Davern devoted himself to solely playing clarinet, preferring trio formats with piano and drums.
