After a period of intense creativity that produced three masterful albums - Blue River, the then-unreleased Stages and Be True to You - Eric Andersen missteped with his second Arista album, Sweet Surprise. He doesn't seem to have had enough time to write and craft a set of new tunes, resulting in several cover songs and relatively unfinished originals like the autobiographical "How It Goes.

Eric Andersen (born February 14, 1943) is an American folk music singer-songwriter, who has written songs recorded by Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, the Grateful Dead and many others. Early in his career, in the 1960s, he was part of the Greenwich Village folk scene. After two decades and sixteen albums of solo performance he became a member of the group. Since the late 1990s, he has resumed his solo career

Eric Andersen vinyl LP album record Sweet Surprise USA AL4075 ARISTA 1976. SURPRISE released this one album in 1977 when Prog was on it's way out. The big negative for me is the concept and in particular the lyrics which are often cringe-worthy to say the least. Overall this album is quite symphonic and perhaps best way to describe the music of SURPRISE would be a mix of FIREBALLET, KING CRIMSON and classic CAMEL. Overall a wonderful album and a definite need for your collection.
