99 Songs of Revolution: Vol. 1 is the fourth studio album by the American ska punk band Streetlight Manifesto, released March 16, 2010. It is part of a multi-album cover songs project by several associated acts including Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution. 99 Songs of Revolution was originally thought to be only a Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution release, as stated in the liner notes for their debut 2001 EP, A Call to Arms.
There is a dichotomy that exists among Streetlight Manifesto. While the ska-punk septet include four horns that are often blaring in opposite directions, their arrangements are meticulously crafted and intentional. Sure, a bit of the oddness is just the nature of the project as this isn't your standard cover album. When all is said and done, 99SOR will be eight full-length records – two from Streetlight, two from acoustic side project Bandits Of The Acoustic Revolution and "two each from two other SM related groups.
The album was recorded in Los Angeles. The record wa. astered at West West Side Music.
When word came out that the first volume of the infamous 99 Songs of Revolution collection was coming out, the usual fanfare came around for the band, and the anticipation grew. So how does this album stack up against their previous work" 99SoR packs the usual ska-punk of Streetlight with enough energy to power Los Angeles and a musicianship that most bands would kill for. At the same time it also disappoints. This is not to say that the songs are not good (at least not all of them)
