Nóirín Ní Riain (born 1951, Caherconlish, County Limerick) is an Irish vocalist. Ní Riain studied music at University College, Cork, specializing in religious music. She is primarily known for spiritual songs, but also sings Celtic music, Sean-nós and Indian songs. Nóirín plays an Indian harmonium (surpeti), shruti box and feadóg (whistle). She was Artist-in-Residence for Wexford and Laois. She performs with her sons Eoin and Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin under the name .

Noirin Ni Riain (Noreen O'Ryan in Anglicized versions) is a legendary sean nos (traditional a cappella) singer in Ireland, but on this project her keening, clear-as-a-bell soprano is backed by America's pastoral-jazz ensemble, the Paul Winter Consort, and such special guests as Joanie Madden and Jerry O'Sullivan. I discovered this album looking for music by Paul Winter, and it is a very welcome addition to my collection, although the instrumental contribution stays in the background and supports Noirin Ni Riain's wonderful, pure singing. Not speaking Gaelic, the lyrics go by me, but the melodies are infused with a clear emotion that travels straight to the heart. 2 people found this helpful.
