Listen free to Tori Amos – Under the Pink (Pretty Good Year, God and more). The album represents a more acoustic piano-based sound, and most of the final third of the album is devoted to a classical-inspired suite of piano songs, including the sweeping nine-and-a-half minute epic "Yes, Anastasia". Tori Amos used a prepared upright piano for the studio recording of "Bells for Her", which was also played on a prepared piano for the second half of the tour. It was voted among the greatest albums of the 1990s by Rolling Stone magazine some years later
Under The Pink is a music studio album recording by TORI AMOS (Crossover Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1994 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. I understand the comparisons between Tori Amos and Kate Bush. There is a distinct similarity between their vocal and songwriting styles. At least there was on Amos' first few albums (I haven't heard anything she's done since this album). But somehow too many of her songs just don't grab me. In my record store, I called her "Tori Almost".
Presented in a gorgeous 8-panel gatefold digipack, and complete with artwork faithful to the exquisite minimalism of the original and liner notes, completists will treasure this, even though some will complain about certain songs recorded during the Pink sessions but missing from here. The song now appears on the second disc. I kicked it off for "The wrong band". Under the pink" wept when "Honey" wasn't on, and she still is angry with me about it", says Tori about it. "Black swan", is another welcome inclusion. The repackage boasts fantastic sound, although some drowned vocals on "The wrong band" and "The waitress" are distracting (it could be my copy, though).

Under the Pink finds Tori very much hiding clues and pushing in plenty of abstract imagery - a good bit of fun for the more actively involved listener. Her critics of her next LP, Boys For Pele, would make this much more used technique the center of discussion and it is true that it doesn't always help a track. That is also what makes Under The Pink its own being. In many ways it is Little Earthquakes Part Deux and in more than one way it can be argued that this is a transitional effort. This explains why it might go unnoticed by most fans, in the scope of the larger discography, despite some hugely popular singles and even a guest appearance by Trent Reznor. But if you're one of the people who didn't lean toward Tori Amos' debut too much because of the lack of musical diversity and, well, fun; then this one's a satisfying treat to immediately follow up with.
