AMENRA evolved as humans as we did as musicians; we actually learned to play our instruments together. Around the MASS I era we had played together for two years; now we have been together for almost two decades. We have been living AMENRA for so long now, we have almost become the music. We found direction with MASS III I believe; that was undeniably a keystone moment in our existence. We never know when it will be our last album. It would make no sense to write, if it weren't for the sheer necessity to create a new MASS at any given time. I would love to see our music survive us and I would love our music to be relevant long after we are gone.

Amenra is a Belgian band from Kortrijk. It was formed in 1999 by vocalist Colin H. van Eeckhout and guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove, who now perform alongside drummer Bjorn Lebon, guitarist Lennart Bossu and bassist Levy Seynaeve. Among a number of other works, they have released six studio albums in the Mass series, the latest of them through Neurot Recordings. The band's unique musical style, characterised by brooding atmospheres and spiritual intensity, is rooted in doom metal, hardcore punk and post-rock. The group released their debut studio album Mass I in 2003. He also described 2005's Mass III as a "keystone moment of existence" at which they "found direction".

The opener might be Mass V's greatest and most obvious perpetrator of the hero-worship that Amenra seem to enjoy lauding on the grandfathers of their sound, but traces of it are apparent throughout the entire album and throughout the band's career
