Symphony No. 2 in C Minor "Resurrection": V. In Tempo des Scherzos wild herausfahrend. Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Felicity Lott, Helen Watts, Harold Farberman, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Harold Farberman, Brighton Festival Choru. Andriessen: Symphonische Etude (Quasi Adagio-Allegro con ro Vivace). Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Bernard Haitink. 6 in A minor by Gustav Mahler is a symphony in four movements, composed in 1903 and 1904 (revised 1906; scoring repeatedly revised). Mahler conducted the work's first performance at the Saalbau concert hall in Essen on May 27, 1906. It is sometimes referred to by the nickname Tragische ("Tragic").
Following his successful 2007 recordings of Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 3, Bernard Haitink once again triumphs with a spectacular 2008 release on CSO Resound of Mahler's Symphony No. 6 in A minor, "Tragic," a rich offering that admirers of the composer and the conductor will surely relish. 6 in A minor ('Tragic'): Allegro energico, ma non troppo: Heftig, aber markig. 2. 6 in A minor ('Tragic'): Scherzo: Wuchtig. 3. 6 in A minor ('Tragic'): Andante moderato. Disc: 2. 1. 6 in A minor ('Tragic'): Finale: Allegro moderato - Allegro energico. Orchestra: Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Conductor: Bernard Haitink. Composer: Gustav Mahler. Haitink's metronomically precise conducting works beautifully in what can become a real Halloween wallow in lesser more hysterical hands; Bernstein skirts the limits in this work and he is thrilling but I don't think anyone else could pull off the hair-raising effects he produces in this symphony, it's pure chutzpah and even Bernstein (NYPO Sony) remains king of the. hill in this piece. But Haitink is right there behind him in this work, with Tennstedt and Karajan.

But Bernard Haitink's recording, taken from performances in the Chicago Symphony's home hall last October, is contained on two, with the second of them devoted to the half-hour-long finale.
Bruckner worked on his Sixth Symphony from September 1879 to September 1881. During his lifetime, he was only able to hear the complete work at one orchestra rehearsal, because only the two middle movements were publicly performed in the concert hall of the Vienna Musikverein on February 11, 1883. The first public performance of the symphony in its entirety followed only on February 26, 1899 - two and a half years after the composer’s death. It was conducted by Gustav Mahler, who, however, had made changes to the score and presented it in a radically shortened version. 6 in A Major, WAB 106 IV. Finale. Bewegt, doch nicht zu schnell.
