Hans-Peter Feldmann (born 1941 in Düsseldorf, Germany) is a German visual artist. He began working in 1968, producing the first of the small handmade books that would become a signature part of his work.

Hans-Peter Feldmann book. Accordingly, apart from the title page, this photo album contains no text. Hans-Peter Feldmann tells stories with pictures.

Hans-Peter Feldmann helps himself to the unlimited pool of public images and shows us what images really are through artistic interventions, new arrangements and charming appropriation: media exponents of visualized memories, associations and desires. He confronts the viewer with their own pictorial world and perception and avoids any kind of categorization and assigning of meaning with his artwork. Art is in and of itself nothing sacred for Hans-Peter Feldmann, but rather a trivial everyday occurrence and form of communication.

Hans-Peter Feldmann’s oeuvre includes works in many media, from painting to sculpture, inst. Kahmen’s book was the first to take an verview of photographic art from its very beginnings up to the post-conceptual period and offer a viable aesthetic theory of art as photography. Feldmann was represented by several grids of photographic images derived from his early Bilder Hefte (Picture Booklets) of the 1970’s, a series of cheaply printed booklets that then sold for a few dollars in German art book stores.

Humorous German artist Hans-Peter Feldmann's show at London's Serpentine gallery includes contents of women's bags. What is also interesting is how vintage and retro much of the contents are. "And how much paper is still there in all kinds of forms," says Hans-Ulrich Obrist, co-director of exhibitions and programmes. In every bag there are business cards, name cards, postcards, invitation cards to exhibitions, tickets to see shows – in the digital age there is a lot of paper. Feldmann has been making art from ordinary items he has collected or photographed for almost 50 years.
