Rose Garden is a multi-million selling, RIAA Platinum-certified studio album by country singer Lynn Anderson. It was released in late 1970 as the title song was climbing country and pop music charts around the world. The single went on to top the Country charts, where it stayed at the number 1 position for five weeks. It reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart in early 1971 and hit number 1 in both Cash Box and Record World.

Lynn Anderson's "Rose Garden" was a huge country crossover hit. Anderson won numerous awards, was one of biggest country singers of '70s. CNN) Lynn Anderson, whose version of the song "(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden" was one of the biggest country hits of the 1970s, has died. She was 67. Anderson died Thursday of a heart attack at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville after being admitted for pneumonia, publicist Mark Logsdon told CNN. Anderson was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, in 1947, and grew up in Sacramento, California. Anderson's final album, "Bridges," came out last month. The singer is survived by her father, Casey Anderson, partner, Mentor Williams, three children and four grandchildren. People we've lost in 2015.

Rose Garden" was originally an album cut by the song's writer, Joe South, in 1969. Several other male vocalists recorded it on albums including Freddy Weller, Billy Joe Royal, and Dobie Gray and Third Avenue Blues Band. A recording by the girl group The Three Degrees, best known for their 1974 hit "When Will I See You Again", also predated Lynn Anderson's hit version. Anderson said, "I believe that 'Rose Garden' was released at just the right time. People were trying to recover from the Vietnam years. The message in the song-that if you just take hold of life and go ahead, you can make something out of nothing-people just took to that. After her Columbia heyday, Lynn Anderson recorded new performances of the song several times for post-1982 albums, including a bluegrass version that was featured in her 2004 comeback album The Bluegrass Sessions.

Lynn Anderson - one of country's most dominant female vocalists of the 1970s - died Friday morning (July 31) in Nashville at the age of 67. According to her publicist Pam Lewis, the singer had recently been suffering from pneumonia. Her version of Joe South's "(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden" became one of the biggest hits of the era, hitting No. 1 on the country charts, and crossing over to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The exposure from that song helped her win female vocalist of the year awards from both the Academy of Country Music (of which she was an early member) and the Country Music Association. Just last month, Anderson released her final album, Bridges. Her first-ever Gospel release, the singer said each track on the album held a particular place in her heart, but "Wanderer's Prayer" was especially meaningful.
