It’s almost staggering how many songs Allo Darlin’ have in their catalog that achieve what History Lessons does, or at least come close to it. We Come from the Same Place has less of them than usual, but without a single misstep; it’s possible that these songs are just not as quick to completely reveal their greatness. Still, Morris and co. are three for three, comfortable in the songwriting tradition they are firmly a part of. We’d be best to heed her advice, study our history, know where they’re coming from.

On their third album, Allo Darlin’ turn down the twee ever-so-slightly to craft a less precious, more grown-up version of that at which they’ve excelled over their previous releases. All tracks short and sweet, We Come From the Same Place is an exceptional release from a band to watch and who hold great promise.

Allo Darlin’s breakup was, in some ways, more than just a good band parting amicably. There was an awful lot of good twee pop in the 2000s, but Allo Darlin’ was the only band carrying on this specific strain of classic indie pop into the 2010s, and since their dissolution, nobody has really filled this void - newer twee bands have been much more bedroom pop than chamber pop. But at least we got a good closing album from them. Allo Darlin’ are remarkably consistent.

We Come From the Place (out Oct. 7 via Slumberland) is the third album from charming, r indie poppers Allo Darlin’ making them old and grey in Internet years. Their sparkling sophomore effort, Europe, was one of 2012’s most d albums. But rest assured, the British band doesn’t sound overeager to bust out of the back pockets of indie-pop kids who’ve been cozying up since their self-titled 2010 debut.

Anyone coming to the third Allo Darlin' album, We Come from the Same Place, looking for something new from them is likely to be disappointed. It's hard to say why anyone might want something different, though, since the first two albums were so good. Maybe it was someone fed up with intricately crafted indie pop. Or someone tired of hearing intimate and true songs about love, life, and how to deal with each.
