The String Quartet in B minor, Op. 11 was written in 1935–36 by Samuel Barber. Barber arranged the middle movement for string orchestra as his well-known Adagio for Strings in 1936. Barber continued to revise the piece, particularly the finale, until 1943. Molto allegro e appassionato. Molto allegro (come prima).
Beck has released five CDs of his music on the innova label. Beck's 2011 CD, IonSound Project, features the e at the University of Pittsburgh. His music on this recording has been described as "uplifting, buoyant and. emotional and sensitive to both the performer and the listener. Jeremy Beck, a composer based in Louisville, K. clearly makes no bones about his traditionalist orientation. And why should he, when the results are as appealing and skillfully crafted as the four string quartets assembled on this disc? Beck writes in lush tonal harmonies and builds elaborate sonata structures around the same harmonic pillars that were in use in the 19th century; the overall formal plans of most of these pieces are also familiar (the exception is Beck's String Quartet No. 2, a quasi-dramatic diptych subtitled "Fathers and Sons").
