Description

Not On Label (Pat McGee Band Self-released) ‎– PMBGA6804.

Perhaps because it is a live album, General Admission does a 180 degree turn from the Pat McGee Band's overly complex musical noodling on their second album, Revel, and marks a return to the straight-ahead acoustic rock that helped make McGee's first album enjoyable. The musicianship has improved here, and the band sounds relaxed and professional in front of its adoring fans.

For the albums, see General Admission (Pat McGee Band album) and General Admission (MGK album). General admission is most commonly employed in seat-less venues, such as outdoor festival shows and smaller club shows. It is also sometimes used in seat-less sections of events that would otherwise have reserved seating (standing-room only sections, including the floor section(s) at some concerts). In some general admission events, a ticket may still assign the holder a specific section of the venue (. balcony or floor), with the choice of seat within that section.

Pat McGee Band chronology. General Admission (1999). General Admission is a live acoustic rock album by the Pat McGee Band released on June 15, 1999. It was recorded live without overdubbing at The Bayou in Washington, . and The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. It features ten songs from previous albums Revel and From the Wood.

This album was recorded live over 4 nights at The Bayou and The Birchmere in 1998. I recall having a rule that we couldn’t fix anything in post-production. So whatever we did those nights was the final product. I wanted to capture what the band was sounding like at that time in our career and I think we did just that. I had just started playing electric guitar and we were stretching out songs like some of the hippie bands I grew up loving. You can hear me making up the words to Can’t Miss What You Never Had as I went along (as I did most nights)

Who Stole Her from Heaven.

Shine is the second studio album and major label debut for the Richmond, VA based Pat McGee Band, released on April 11, 2000. On the heels of successful independent releases in Revel and General Admission, the band inked an album contract with Warner Bros. subsidiary Giant Records. Shine was composed mostly of new material written for the record, though two previously recorded songs were reworked: "Haven't Seen for a While," which originally appeared on McGee's 1996 solo From the Wood, and "Rebecca", from Wood and Revel. There is a hidden track immediately following the conclusion of "Shine" that instrumentally reprises the twelfth track, "I Know".

McGee has chosen some of his best songs for this collection, recorded locally at Birchmere and the now-shuttered Bayou, and delivers them with a sincerity and tunefulness that cuts through the noise generated by enthusiastic fans in both clubs. Extensive touring has sharpened the band's acoustic rock sound and expanded both its arrangements and fan base. The album crowd-fed finale of "Rebecca," for example, clocks in at over 12 minutes  . Appearing Friday and Saturday at the Birchmere. To hear a free Sound Bite from the Pat McGee Band, call Post-Haste at 202/334-9000 and press 8101. For a Sound Bite from Owsley, press 8102.
