When the band's second album, Good God's Urge, dropped on May 28, 1996, fans expecting either more Jane's Addiction or another "Pets" were in for a surprise. With no Navarro to hold him back, Farrell jumped headfirst into arty, post-punk waters with an earnestness not seen since Psi-Com, his pre-Jane's band. Album opener "Porpoise Head" is quite literally the sound of Bauhaus or Love and Rockets as fronted by Jane's lead singer-the song features guest appearances from Daniel Ash, David J. and Kevin Haskins from those two legendary bands. With exception to a brief reunion for Perry's 50th birthday party, Porno For Pyros' small but unique catalog remains landlocked, never to be performed again. The Top 100 Alternative Albums of the '90s. Worst to First: Every Jane's Addiction Album Ranked. Filed Under: Jane's Addiction, Perry Farrell, Porno For Pyros. Categories: Anniversaries, Longform, Music, News.

Issued in a standard clear tray jewel case with a 10-page fold out booklet. The front case has an attached 'Porno For Pyros' sticker and a debossed Warner 'big w' logo on the bottom right corner. Recorded and mixed in Zuma Beach, California at Shangri-La Studios, with additional recording and mixing at The Record Plant, Los Angeles.

Listening to Porno for Pyro's 'Good God's Urge' you are left in little doubt Perry Farrell is one of these fortunate souls as the album comes across as a thinly disguised love letter to the place(s) closest to his heart. Back in '96 this release met with incredulity and was criticised for lacking the outrageous Farrell pyrotechnics we'd all come to expect; as far as most were concerned the man simply wasn't being true to himself

Its funny I started listening to this album a lot again about a month before I found out it was going to be released on vinyl, so I was super stoked when I found out they were pressing this. I was a bit worried because it was never released on vinyl back in 1996 and I wasn't sure if it was being cut from analog master tape or CD or what. But I am happy to say this album sounds great on vinyl. The album was recorded really well, if you have the CD you know, the CD actually sounds quite good, the bass really stands out, the drums are powerful and the separation of sound between individual instruments is wonderful, everything sounds very clear and distinct so it's nice to see that translated well over to the vinyl version. Well done ORG. I would recommend this on vinyl especially if you're a fan of the band.

So happy they finally released this as it's one of my favorite albums. Awesome sounding press but kind of lackluster packaging for the price point. It probably would have been a $20 record if it weren't a RSD exclusive. As stated earlier, no insert, generic inner sleeve, not colored, not numbered. I wish they put more effort into it, but again I'm just happy to own it.

No insert? No colored wax? I'm genuinely surprised by little effort they put into this reissue of this great album.

i totally agree.. at least a numberof what pressing you have.. example 2034 of 3000..and colored was would have made this release really stand out... I got to see them in 1996 in Chicago... Mike watt was wearing a monk suit the entire time... stephen perkins broke his hi hat yhe last song before the encore.. they found one and played janes says and mountain song

I, for one, thank you immensely. This album NEEDED to be pressed. It was a travesty that it had not been. There are few albums that I know of that are this good that were never pressed beyond a test pressing.

First we've heard of any issues like this. On any ORG Music release, if you find defective copies, e-mail [email protected] and we'll do our best to address and get you a replacement.

Wish I could share the quality sentiment. I've now run through two copies of this that have non-fill on the last track of side A. Highly disappointing given the cost.
ACOS ACOS
it sounds wonderful. I have also been waiting for this on vinyl for many years.
Dranar Dranar
Quality indeed! I just finished my first listen-through and it sounds amazing. Great job!!

Indeed, it does sound fantastic. Thank you ORG dudes so much for bringing this to vinyl, finally!

Sorry, I in no way meant to question the quality of the pressing--I think it sounds great--and definitely never said anything about a cash grab. I suppose my comment was more based on RSD and how--such as with the previous PFP reissue--everything is colored wax and "deluxe" edition.
Iraraeal Iraraeal
It really does sound great though. If you're a fan of this album, it's worth buying.

Andrew from ORG Music here. Unfortunately we don't always have a say in what we're able to do with these reissues, especially when it comes to artwork. Releases that are controlled by the major label catalog groups (like this one) are the toughest in this respect. They rarely (if ever) provide artwork files to work with, and many times there are legal reasons why we're unable to reproduce artwork from the original release, or even create new artwork to include. We do our best with what we have, as was certainly the case on this release. We stand behind the quality of this release when it comes to the vinyl and mastering. If this truly was a "cash grab", we wouldn't have pressed it at one of the most expensive plants around. In all honesty, we just love the record and wanted it to come out on vinyl with a quality pressing.

That's right; I get the two mixed up. Didn't Magnified also have the issue where one of the songs was missing its intro or something, and the band publicly denounced it? Not good..

I was referring to Failure's "Magnified", but "Comfort" was just as lacking.
SARAND SARAND
Surprising, considering ORG is usually spot-on with their album packaging. Failure's Comfort is a poor example because the CD art was minimal in its own right. Was definitely hoping this one would have an insert with the album art though..
Ballazan Ballazan
That is ORG Music for you. Did the same thing with Failure's 2nd album.

A cash grab at best for them and I'm over here thinking, #FairEnough

Finally! I knew this would happen! I love this album!
