Description

This is the discography of AC/DC during the years while Bon Scott was the lead singer.

Ronald Belford "Bon" Scott (9 July 1946 – 19 February 1980) was an Australian singer, songwriter and instrumentalist, best known for being the lead vocalist and lyricist of the Australian hard rock band AC/DC from 1974 until his death in 1980. Scott was born in Forfar, Scotland, and spent his early years in Kirriemuir. He moved to Australia with his family in 1952 at the age of six, living in Melbourne for four years before settling in Fremantle, Western Australia

Bon Scott was AC/DC’s original and greatest singer – and that’s with all due respect to his successor, Brian Johnson. A Scottish-born ex-pat with a voice that sounded like it had been soaked in whiskey, Bon’s roguish charisma and a lived-in worldview fitted perfectly alongside Angus Young’s livewire energy. Cut in 1975 for the band’s second album . it has an air of menace about it. The mood is set in the intro: a throbbing one-note bass line, guitars easing in slow, the hiss of a hit-hat pushing it along, and then everything locking together in a riff that’s as mean as they come. For several years, AC/DC opened their set with Live Wire.

The best Bon Scott AC/DC songs lighten the sense of menace found within the band's lyrics and music with the sense of humor and self-deprecation that made the singer so charismatic and beloved. Here's our humbly chosen list of the 10 Best Bon Scott AC/DC songs: 10. "Shot Down in Flames". From: 'Highway to Hell' (1979). Right off the bat, here's the humility that not-so-secretly fuels the best Bon Scott songs. Our hero's out on the town and looking for love; problem is, his approach is all wrong. It served as a timely reminder of the years of hard work that go into becoming an "overnight success" in the music industry. 2. "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap".

And driving it all were Bon Scott’s most vulnerable and downbeat lyrics, of which ‘Down Payment Blues’ are among his very best. If you want a picture that sums them up, then the image of the fifty cent millionaire is it. 8. Gone Shootin’. The story of a doomed love affair with a junkie, ‘Gone Shootin’’ contains the starkest set of lyrics ever written by Bon Scott. Widely regarded as AC/DC’s first truly great album, ‘Let There Be Rock’’s title track condenses 22 years of rock’n’roll history into just over six minutes of hi-octane brilliance. Everything here was bigger and better than what had gone before and from here on in, there was no looking back. 3. Whole Lotta Rosie (Live).
